Long-distance move from New Jersey to Georgia

Unsatisfactory - customer service.

We had a very large move from N.J. to the Atlanta area.  The 2nd truck was delayed 2 days, not such a big issue.  The packers and the delivery guys were a great bunch and tried to do any thing they could to make the move a easier for me.  The issue came with the 2nd truck.  The men wanted to get the delivery over with as soon as they could.  I did tell them to put some of the items in the garage.  So they just put them on top of each other and a lot of the boxes were crushed and items were damaged. They were not helpful nor willing to go the extra mile for the customer.  Here is the big problem.  I called the main office and spoke to them that I took pictures of the all the broken items and the piles of my belongings in my garage.  They said they would get back to me.  I called 5 more times and no one has ever gotten back to me.  I have 3 friends that are not using them because of this.  If I would have gotten a call back I think my review might have been different.   Please call your customers back and you will not get 2 stars. A.G.

Long-distance move from Far Hills, NJ to Silverthorne, CO

Very happy with White Glove Moving.

This was our first long distance move so we were nervous about the process, especially after reading numerous negative reviews for other moving companies. The overwhelming positive reviews for White Glove Moving sealed our decision to select White Glove after receiving quotes from several other national moving companies.

From start to finish White Glove exceeded our expectations on our cross country move. Andrew, our salesperson and estimator, could not have been nicer. He answered all our questions, responded to all of our calls promptly, and his estimate turned out to be perfect.

The loading crew was extremely professional. Upon arrival each member of the team introduced themselves. It was clear they had pride in their company and understood how stressful a household move can be for a family. We could not believe how much time they took and how well they wrapped and protected all of our household items. Because of this we were very confident our household would arrive intact and it did! Each item and box was clearly listed on an inventory sheet for tracking.

At the destination, the moving van arrived with a driver and assistant. Additional help was supposed to meet them, however there was a mix-up and the other help did not arrive. The driver and assistant unloaded the entire household. As each item was unloaded, the driver had me check off the item on the inventory sheet that was prepared at loading to make sure each and every item and box arrived as planned. There was no damage to any of our household and all items arrived as anticipated.

Even though it took over 10 hours, the movers went about their business and they could not have been nicer. Even after the last items were moved into the house in the dark at 10:00 PM, they were not in a rush to leave. They diligently finished assembling several furniture items, and asked if there was anything I wanted to them to move to a different location or rearrange.

The price we paid matched the original estimate exactly. We even received a 3% discount on the entire move for paying cash.

Overall we could not have been happier. White Glove moving made a stressful and nerve racking process easy for us. We are happy to give White Glove Moving 5 stars and double thumbs up. We would recommend White Glove to anyone considering a move.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to California

White Glove Movers.

We chose White Glove over 4 other national movers because they claimed to be endorsed by Prudential..we later discovered that they were not. The move was from a 7200 sq. ft. house in NJ to northern California. We were surprised that their packing time was 3 days with every other mover requiring 5 or more. The moving supervisor bragged about how they were the fastest in the business.  I didn't know it then, but as we started to unload the track we realized that we made a big mistake in choosing this mover. The boxes emerged from the truck dented, crushed, and bits of their contents sticking out of the box.  There was almost no packing material used.  My office computer, printer, external drives, keyboard, mouse, and  speakers were in 1 large box with absolutely no packing of any kind.  Not even packing paper.  Of course most of it was damaged or now inoperable. In another box we discovered 30 pairs of dress shoes an another large box ALSO without any packing at all.  It was nothing butust 60 shoes thrown into a box. We were moving our $7,000 chandelier Italian alabaster chandelier and paid the extra charge to have it crated.  They build a lever crate where the chandelier actually hung from the re-enforced top of the crate.  Unfortunately they neglected to put arrows on the crate showing "this end up".  As a result, the crate was "rolled, end over end from the truck to the house. When the movers were finally done unloading we realized that 65 boxes were un-accounted for.  In addition to all of this damage, they had lost 10% of our boxes with our belongings in them.  It was a total disaster.  Please avoid them Luckily we took the insurance for $2000.  They corroborated that we had over$12,000 in substantiated damages and sent us a check.  Unfortunately, at least once a week one of us will say something like, "have you seen the boxes of grandma's dishes?" and realize that we will never see them again since they were in the 10% of missing boxes. The overall comment we found ourselves repeating is that White Glove made no distinction between packing a crystal statue or brick..in fact they packed them together ( or things just as dissimilar in weight and fragility).

Dishonest.

White Glove picked up my belongings on 10/29 in excellent condition. They delivered them to me a month later wet, moldy and broken. They never told me I had damage to my items and just delivered them to get the delivery fee. I got a phone call saying their warehouse had suffered damage during Sandy, but my things were in an area of minimal damage and they said I should get them delivered. When I asked to see my belongings before delivery, I was told no, that the only way to access my items was to take delivery or wait months during which time damage in their warehouse might occur. I even asked to be there when they loaded the truck and was told no. Instead they just charged me to deliver garbage without even a warning! And on top of that, they said it was an Act of God, so they and their insurance have NO liability!! Do not use this disreputable company!!

Official company response

Dear Kathryn,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your relocation with White Glove. As you stated, your items were picked up on 10/29. That night, Hurricane Sandy caused an unanticipated and unprecedented amount of damage to the entire Greater New York City area that much of the area is still recovering from. It is unfortunate that you are leaving us a negative review based on Hurricane Sandy, but we do wish you the best of luck in your new home and appreciate your feedback nonetheless.

Long-distance move from New York to California

Avoid this company if you care about your valuables.

Choosing White Glove Moving for a cross-country move was the BIGGEST MISTAKE I have ever made. Save yourself a lot of heartache and financial distress and simply spend the money upfront on a quality moving company (that being said, any other mover would do). I refused to sign a claim offer of a measly ~$300 for my ~$7,000 of items in order to write this review, as the claim form legally prevents one from filing service-related complaints. Here is my moving experience highlight reel: - Lost 20% of my boxes valued at ~$7,000, one of which was the largest box I had - Forced to notify mover that they brought other people’s boxes into my apartment - Long distance driver was entirely unorganized and brought me into his truck to help look for my boxes (Good thing I am not a thief!) - Nonexistent communication within the company - Management was unaware my boxes were even missing - One way street - Whiteglove rarely, if ever, returned any of our repeated calls or messages - Whiteglove employees are incompetent across the board - drivers, customer service and directors are no exception - Zero accountability - Eventually dealt directly with a White Glove Executive Director who quickly pawned me off to yet another employee - Never got a truly honest apology - Was encouraged to quickly file a claim - Possible locations of my box according to Whiteglove - in other customer’s hands, overseas, or hidden in the New Jersey warehouse - Pressured Whiteglove to put any real effort into finding the boxes - Experienced horrible record keeping and knowledge-share among employees regarding customer files (not sure they really exist, maybe on napkins?) - Granted access to their “VIP Customer Care Department” line. If the kind of treatment I received on that line was “VIP”, I would love to know how they treat regular customers service calls Best luck on your move! UPDATE: I called White Glove to tell them I was declining the claim offer. They increased the offer a bit, but it still wasn’t anywhere close. I was asked what I was looking for, and I told them “at least $xyza” as I didn’t have time to think and choose a set amount, to which the employee replied that I should hear back in a few minutes. I was under the impression she was just feeling me out to see if coming up to around this amount was even possible. Just before the end of their business day I got a call back with a new offer. The White Glove employee went on the offensive and began attacking me once I suggested what I considered to be a reasonable offer (I came up with a fixed amount after having some time to think about it) considering I did not get what I paid for, which is for ALL my belongings to end up at the final destination. She said “we agreed on a number originally, but then you turned it down”. Nonsense. I was offered the “maximum” amount originally and was not aware of all the legal jargon prohibiting me from reviewing the company - I never agreed to that. She then suggested I was lying about the box contents, told me I was “vindictive”, that I would receive “bad karma”, and that if I posted a review she would reply with “all my personal information” including my signed confidential contract. As far as I’m concerned, I am expecting good karma if I prevent even one person from using this terribly unprofessional company. I credit them for increasing the offer, but it is grossly unprofessional and disgraceful to start launching personal attacks at a customer.

Official company response

Dear Mr. Crews,
The review you have posted regarding your experience with White Glove contains statements that have compelled us to respond. You are correct that you were offered not one, but two settlements from our company. The first settlement offer was for the MAXIMUM amount allowed by your contract, since you did not purchase full value protection through us or 3rd party insurance. Your coverage was $0.60 lb/article. You then informed us that you wanted ~$700 to reach a settlement. As an act of good faith, we called you back to inform you that we would agree to your demands, at which point you then notified us that you now wanted DOUBLE your demand ($1500) or you were going to go to every review site possible and leave us a negative review (which you have now done). We make strides to treat every customer fairly, but refuse to be extorted. We appreciate your feedback, but it is very far from an accurate representation of your dealings with our company. We wish you the best of luck in your new home in California.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to California

Disaster Pick-up.

After spending 8 years in the military - moving every few years, this was my first 'civilian' experience with a moving company.  I had high hopes for White Glove after reading the reviews, but my overall experience was the worst move I have had in the last 10 years.
I had been working with Casper - the company was on time w/ pick-up and delivery, but when the crew showed up to pack my goods they had two temps from the local area, 1 of whom had never packed goods before.  The crew was a disaster both in complete laziness as well as in incompetence.  We had a lot of goods so I wasn't able to monitor every item, but they ended up packing one of our mirrors in cloth only - no cardboard.  At delivery, 2 of the 4 mirror we had were completely broken.  The foreman seemed to have no control of the crew, and they didn't start moving until the rain came in.

Finally, at the end of a long day of packing, the driver went over the paperwork with me.  He instructed me to sign the Insurance Option 2 (limited replacement value) and told me full replacement value wasn't an option.  I protested, but he insisted.  After a long day of dealing with the crew, I signed.

I initially had a positive experience with the claims process, but they offered to pay me $200 only if I agreed not to post any internet reviews, etc.  I declined in the hopes of passing along my experience to others.
We had a great experience with the delivery, but based on the actions of this pack-out crew, I would not use or recommend White Glove.

If you are considering White Glove, be sure to ask about the pack-out crew and please sign option 1 for your protection.

Official company response

Michael,

I am sorry to hear that you felt like we did such a bad job on your move. With that being said some issues need to be clarified. When the move was scheduled there was an original pickup window with a crew reservation. We were then informed that the date had to be sooner than the original reservation therefore we scrambled to get a crew together. My foreman who did the pickup has been with me for 13 years and laziness is not an attribute he possess's. The fact of the matter is you had over 75 more boxes than listed on your inventory as well as over 16 additional pieces of furniture. Due to the last minute nature of the changes we were unable to send you more men than your original 3 man crew and hired local help for loading purposes. I imagine that was my mistake but as per our conversation you just wanted it to be completed as fast as possible. For the record we did not charge you for the additional labor. Furthermore in regards to insurance. You wanted to purchase an insurance policy from Baker International. Baker International requires a minimum of 48 hours notice my foreman was just notifying you that on move day you cannot purchase insurance from Baker International, that is simply their company policy. We called Baker on your behalf and you were denied coverage again due to the short notice. My foreman again was just passing along information that was given to him, if it came across as coercion I ask on his behalf for forgiveness.

On a brighter note I am glad my crew who delivered you did a good job, They were prepared for the magnitude of your shipment and they were thrilled about the nice tip(thank you for treating them so well). Most importantly Michael you were an absolute gentleman the entire time and I wish you and your family all the best in California

Respectfully Yours,

Casper Rose.

Long-distance move from California to Ohio

Poor Management / Overall Disappointing.

BAIT AND SWITCH!!  MOVE ON TO A BETTER COMPANY!!  There is no glowing testimonial here. Frank, who is one of the owners, comes across as being personable over the phone. Don't be fooled. Once the company has your deposit, it is all DOWNHILL and DIRTY.  White Glove offers POOR COMMUNICATION that LACKS in MANAGEMENT which translates into POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.  The company does not follow through with what is stated in the agreement and DOES NOT keep you updated when your move goes BAD. I moved from Los Angeles to Ohio.  My items were picked up on Nov 14th and the delivery was scheduled on Nov 20th.  My items DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL DEC 13th.  I was told by the driver, Steven, my items would go directly from his 18 wheeler to Ohio.  At NO TIME PRIOR TO MY MOVE from LA, DID ANYONE from White Glove tell me that my items would be dropped off and REMAIN in a storage unit in LA for several weeks. I purchased the PLATINUM PKG..  NOT WORTH IT.  Packing is poorly done and I am not surprised several items were DAMAGED and LOST/ STOLEN.  Clothes were not hung in wardrobe boxes.  Just like past reviews, my clothes were folded around the hangers and wrinkled beyond wear.  Antique items were damaged- literally a chunk of wood broken off of my Louis XV french armoire.  The delivery truck showed up today WITHOUT THE COMPANY NAME White Glove for you could see Toyota..  very suspicious.  Movers did not wear company shirts.  Appearance was unprofessional. The COST of the move was MORE THAN AGREEMENT.  THERE WAS NO ITEMIZATION OF INVENTORY EVER PROVIDED.  Several requests were made for information.  I felt my ITEMS WERE HELD HOSTAGE. Kelly from customer service stated she would get back to me regarding the issue but she never did.  The company is POORLY MANAGED. My move was similar to many other customers who have recently shared their experience (Check YELP reviews!) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for you TO STAY AWAY..  YOUR $$ CAN BE SPENT ELSEWHERE.  My complaint is being made with the Better Business Bureau.  It is unfortunate that my outcome was such a DISAPPOINTMENT.  However, I hope this review helps someone in making a better informed decision.   Thanks for reading.

Official company response

Dear Jill,

It is unfortunate that you did not have a pleasant experience with White Glove like so many of our satisfied customers. Regarding the communication issues that you had, our company was experiencing difficulties related to Hurricane Sandy that prevented us from being in constant communication with our customers. Regarding the execution of your move, we realize we could have done a better job and we have corrected the problems that were associated with your move. Our customer care department made efforts to rectify the situation but was unable to reach an agreement with you. While we feel your review does not accurately portray your experience with White Glove, we do want to wish you the best of luck in your new home and we appreciate your feedback.

Long-distance move from North Carolina to Texas

Horrible cross country move.

Be careful with this mover. This is a broker service. The initial representative, Casper, took my inventory for the quote but did not list all the items on the bill of laden. When the movers arrived two days after their guaranteed pickup window, they refused to move anything that was not on the list. They had to call their management to get permission to load the additional items which should have been on the list. They finished the packing the next day. It took the two movers two days to pack my 1100 Sq ft townhouse. All they had to pack was the furniture. All but 5-8 boxes had already been packed. I purchased the silver package so that they would pack my electronics, lamps, and pictures. After all my goods were loaded they told me that it would cost an additional $319 dollars. I wasn't in a position to argue at that point. But, I was told that I could get 3% off if I paid with cash, cashier's check, or money order. It was also at this point that I learned that my goods would be moved to a warehouse and would be unloaded and placed into storage. Then when a truck was available they would be reloaded and shipped to my final destination.
Over the next two weeks I called several times to get the total volume of my goods or a weight. I was first passed around to various offices. Then I was guaranteed that I would be given a complete list when my goods arrived.
White gloves guarantees delivery within 14 business days. They don't guarantee to deliver on a business day though. It took 12 business days and 2 1/2 weekends for my goods to be delivered. When my goods arrived they were in terrible condition. Boxes looked like they had been wet. There were large holes in boxes. My desk was chipped all around the edge with large deep scrapes across the surface. I had two lamps and a wall mirror broken, a standing fan snapped in two, the top ripped off my cat tree, the back broken off on my weigh bench, all of which the movers packed. They also broke all my mugs and wine glasses. My desk top computer, also which they packed, was hanging out of a box that looked like it had been ran over by a truck with a gaping hole in the side. My bed was missing components. The movers tried to put it together with some lag screws. But, it fell to pieces two days later in the night. The delivery movers were very apologetic and said that I must have had a horrible crew. They did not have my total volume of goods either and told me that I could contact the office to get it. I contacted the office four times over the following week before I could get a copy of my bill.
Once I had my bill, I tried calling the company to collect on the $0.60 per lb insurance policy. The movers had signed my inventory for the damaged goods verifying the damage. I listed the items broken to the customer service representative. She said that I had too many damaged items. Usually, they would have done a settlement on the phone. However, I have to take pictures of all the damage and print copies of them to be mailed, they don't accept email copies, to the company. I have to keep all the broken items, make sure not to repair anything (they want me to sleep on floor), and keep all the packaging material. She could not give me a time frame for when the claim could be completed. She said that she would email me the information later in the day. But, I never received it.
I would not recommend this company. I would strongly recommend that you avoid this company and look elsewhere.

Official company response

Bill,

There are parts of your review that are true and there are parts of your review that are false. First we are not a broker service, and I was the one that personally took your inventory list. I emailed this list to you and you signed off on the list agreeing that it was final. We also made multiple amendments to this list prior to your move. I am more than happy to fax/email these documents to you. If these additional items should have been on your list all you had to do was simply call/email me and I would have added them as we do on more than one occasion. Regarding the pickup we arrived within you pickup window, I am not exactly sure why you claim we were late, please call me to go over this. We also did provide you 3% off your entire move, in your review it leads one to believe that we did not, but we did discount you upon delivery.

Prior to scheduling any Long Distance move I review with the client there delivery window. You were very aware of the benefits and limitations of this window PRIOR to scheduling. I do this so one can budget both there money and time.

Regarding the damages, I am incredibly sorry for the damages expierenced and for this we are responsible. I will contact my V.I.P. Customer Care Department immediately. We pride ourselves on not letting any customer fall through the cracks and I will go out of my way to make sure your claim is filed in a timely fashion. You are always welcome to call me for any advice or guidance.

P.S. Sir nobody wants you to sleep on the floor. I can assure you of that.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to North Carolina

Would never recommend.

I contacted White Glove for my move from NJ to NC. Initial price was good. The salesman Rick spent about 1 hr going over the items to be moved. He failed to include the headboard and footboard for the bed and we were charged extra on moving day. He also failed to explain the way they handle the move. We did not know until when the movers arrived that our belongings were loaded at our home and then unloaded at a warehouse. It would then be loaded again to a 50 foot tractor trailer to be delivered to NC. Since a truck that large would not fit down the streets in our development the trailer would be unloaded and reloaded to a smaller truck at an additional charge of course. We also were never told that the quoted price was for cash only and that if we wanted to use a credit card it was an additional 3%. Overall the men who loaded the truck in NJ and unloaded in NC did a fine job. What bothered me was the salesmanship when we were given the quote. So instead of paying $2300 the move ended up costing us just below $3000.
I would definitely not recommend White Glove Movers and have told my realtor to stop recommending them too.

Service cost: $2900

Official company response

Mr. Kilar,

I am sorry that you did not have a stellar move, but according to this it seems like you were not clear on a couple of items. First we do not charge 3% more if someone wants to use a credit card. What we told you and it is also reflected in the paper work is your quote would be 3% LESS if you paid by certified check/bank check. The $2700 would be reduced $81 if payment was in certified check/bank check. Regarding the additional $250.00, we made an attempt to deliver in our long distance truck but as we both now know there is no access. Thus we had to rent a smaller truck, transfer the shipment and deliver accordingly. All of this is written in your paperwork but it IS the salespersons responsibilty to inform the client of potential extra charges. After speaking with you I wholeheartedly believe you were not informed. I am sorry, myself and the saleperson had a very serious conversation regarding clarity and disclosure. On a positive note I heard at delivery everything went very well and there were no damages. In closing I wish you and your family good luck in your new home and if there is anything I can do please do call.

Best Regards,

Casper Rose.
